Cincinnati Bell is now altafiber

Altafiber has a longstanding history in the Cincinnati area, starting in 1873 as the first telephonic exchange in the state and 10th in the country. Known for its innovation the company has continued to grow and evolve. Today the company offers a variety of services including high-speed internet and covers more than 2,400 square miles in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

Altafiber currently offers three high-speed internet packages delivered over a fiber network. Referred to by the company as Altafiber Fioptics internet, this service offers cutting edge performance.

Who is Altafiber internet for?

Altafiber Fioptics currently has three options when it comes to its internet plans.

The Fioptics 400 Mbps internet package can support homes that need bandwidth for up to 14 devices. With download speeds up to 400 Mbps, everyone in your household will be able to do their favorite online activity like streaming movies or gaming at the same time with no lag or buffering.

If your household needs more coverage for more devices, the Fioptics 600 MBPS package offers high-speed internet for up to 24 devices and download speeds up to 600 Mbps.

For households with more than 24 devices that love to stream movies simultaneously, video chat, stream music and play multiplayer online games all at the same time, the Fioptics 1 Gig plan has you covered.

All Altafiber internet plans are eligible for their Premier Upgrade which includes whole-home WiFi, internet security with a password manager, 24/7 connected device support and repair protection for an additional fee.

Since Altafiber is a regional service there have not been many reviews from industry leaders. However, in a 2022 review of best providers in Cincinnati, US World & News commended Altafiber for its affordable starting rates as well as having no data caps and no requirement for video or phone service.

Customer reviews from the Altafiber website describe the company as having professional technicians and reliable internet service with “low pings” and “no packet loss.”

How does Altafiber internet compare to other providers?

Though internet service providers will vary by market a few of Altafiber’s main competitors are Spectrum, HughesNet, and Viasat. While all four companies offer starting prices between $39.99 and $49.99/month – HughesNet and Viasat offer much slower download speeds. On the other hand, Spectrum is the most comparable to Cincinnati Bell with a fiber network, download speeds up to 1000 Mbps and no data caps or overage charges.
