Introducing “Move Your Stuff” — The Best Way to Reserve a Moving Company
Finding a reputable moving company that offers dependable services at a reasonable price shouldn’t be overwhelming, but it often is. Learning about moving companies, sifting through their reviews, and gathering comparable quotes can make even the most patient person’s head spin.
To solve this problem, we’re excited to announce Updater’s newest feature to streamline the process of finding a moving company — Move Your Stuff.
Move Your Stuff serves a simple purpose: To help consumers easily compare their options when booking a moving company. The same way you would reserve a flight online – compare options – you can now reserve a local move with an Updater Certified Moving Company.
How we choose our partners
Moving companies can only participate in Move Your Stuff if they’re hand picked by Updater and have received the designation of an Updater Certified Moving Company. Updater invites only the best moving companies that abide by the highest industry standards and consistently strive to provide an exceptional customer experience.
This designation takes some of the unknowns out of the equation. We’ve done all the hard work and research for consumers. We then offer a choice of only the most capable moving companies in the industry.
In order to earn the “Updater Certified” designation, moving companies must:

Be licensed and insured with a DOT Number and be registered with the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration).

Be a member of the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) or their local/state association.

Abide by the AMSA Code of Ethics.

Maintain positive ratings with the Better Business Bureau, Yelp, Angie’s List, Google, and Updater Reviews.

How it works
When users view their personalized Updater dashboard, they will see a Move Your Stuff step. They complete an intuitive, virtual inventory that documents the contents of their home.
It’s easy to compare moving companies
After completing their inventory, Updater users can compare real-time quotes from participating moving companies that are available to service their move. To help decide which company to reserve, users can view profiles about each company, read recent reviews, and compare moving companies based on what is most important to them, whether that is price, quality rating, or value score.
Quality Rating
Each Updater Certified Moving Company receives a Quality Rating. Quality Ratings are letter scores (A+, A, A-, etc.) determined by a proprietary algorithm that takes into account a number of factors, such as the number of years a company has been in business, the quality of Updater user reviews, and fleet size.
Because Quality Ratings are determined by algorithms and not humans, moving companies can only improve their ratings by providing high-quality service to their customers. Each moving company’s Quality Rating is prominently displayed on the comparison screen, as well as on its individual profile page.
To help facilitate complete transparency post move, all Updater users have the option to review the moving company they worked with — allowing future users the ability to read first-hand accounts of actual moves.
Value Score
To help users determine their first choice, each quote has a Value Score. As suggested by the name, Value Scores help users determine the value of each offer. Value Score is calculated by a proprietary algorithm that takes into account a variety of factors, such as: price, Quality Rating, and historical data trends.
Value Scores range from 65 – 100; 65 is a poor deal, and 100 is an amazing deal.
Just like the complete Updater User Dashboard, Move Your Stuff is accessible to users 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means that users can reserve a moving company when it is most convenient for them, regardless of the time of day, without having to speak to a salesperson. Move Your Stuff is available to users who fall within a designated geographic market and are of a certain home size.
