Meet Updater: Amanda Amato, Senior Marketing Manager

As employee number 17, Updater’s Senior Marketing Manager, Amanda Amato, knows exactly what it means to work hard and get stuff done. Amanda is dedicated to helping Updater reinvent an entire industry and, in doing so, has had a huge impact on the company. Her bubbly personality shines throughout our office, and we’re happy to share some of it with you here, today!

Do you have a moving horror story?

Oh yeah. I was moving from Hoboken, NJ, just across the river to lower Manhattan. It wasn’t until I arrived at my new building for move-in that I learned I had to park my rental truck on the West Side Highway to access the freight elevator. The building staff gave me a small traffic cone to alert oncoming (highway) traffic that we were, in fact, stopped. Also, because we were illegally parked on the highway, someone had to stay with the truck to make sure we didn’t get towed (or smashed into). Luckily for me, my now-husband was there to take care of the heavy lifting, and moving, and, well, everything, while I lounged in the truck. So, actually, it wasn’t too much of a nightmare… for me.

What’s your best piece of moving advice?

If you can, hire a moving company, and splurge on packing services. It’s so worth it. But, be sure to do your research and carefully vet the company before making a decision. The least expensive option is definitely not always the best option.

What’s the largest item you’ve ever had to carry on the subway?

A giant, stained glass window I got from a Law and Order set sale.

How many times have you moved?

Ten times.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Updater?

Number one is definitely the people. We work hard, we play hard, and we genuinely care about and enjoy spending time with one another. Support is something you will never lack at Updater. Number two is the work. We’re reinventing an entire industry and coming up with innovative solutions to real-world problems that affect millions of people and have never been tackled before. It’s incredibly rewarding.

How did you come to work at Updater?

My teammate, Jenna, brought me here. She actually hired me as her intern at a past job years ago when I was still in college. We became fast friends and have spent the better part of a decade working together. When Jenna joined Updater, she told me she was going to hire me as soon as she could begin building out a marketing team. She kept her promise, and I couldn’t be happier.

What’s the best part about working on a small team?

Everything you do matters. Being a part of a small team makes your work extremely impactful, and I love seeing how my work affects the company and our various stakeholders in many different ways.

What motivates you to come to work every day?

Let’s put it this way – I’ve never woken up and not wanted to come to work at Updater.

You can only eat one food for the rest of your life. What is it?

Pizza. I’m always in the mood for pizza.

If you could travel to work every day on a vehicle without wheels (think: hovercraft, broom), what would you choose?

Teleportation is my dream. It might not be a “vehicle,” but it doesn’t require wheels.

What’s your favorite fast food restaurant?

… McDonald’s.

What’s your favorite Saturday Night Live skit?

Is it possible to choose just one? Celebrity Jeopardy, or really, anything with Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton.

Where did you grow up?

West Virginia, in a small town called Bridgeport.

What are two personal tidbits about you?

My first name is Christine. And so is my mom’s… and my grandma’s… I’m actually the ninth Christine (in a row) in my family. And, I was the Homecoming Queen of my high school.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A paleontologist.
