Meet Updater: Calvin Szeto, Frontend Engineer

Meet Updater Frontend Engineer and breakfast taco connoisseur, Calvin Szeto. While our team is a group of dog lovers, we also welcome cats with open arms. That’s why Calvin and his cat, Karl-Anthony Towns (yes, like the NBA player), are perfect additions to our engineering team. In his own words, here’s a little more about Calvin and why Updater is his perfect fit.

Where did you grow up?
Sugar Land, TX.
What are two personal tidbits about you?
1. I have a beautiful cat named Karl-Anthony Towns.
2. I often sneeze when I’m exposed to sunlight.
Do you have a moving horror story?
Thankfully, no.
What’s your best piece of moving advice?
Move into a building with an elevator!
How many times have you moved?
Three times in college and then once to New York. Hopefully, I won’t move again for a long time because I have a lot of heavy stuff.
What’s your favorite Updater feature? Why?
The mail forwarding step. A house isn’t a home until your mail is forwarded there.
How did you come to work at Updater?
I was looking for a job where I could learn and experiment with all kinds of new things, and Updater is a company where growth and curiosity are an essential part of the blueprint. It was a perfect fit.
What motivates you to come to work every day?
It’s incredibly motivating to work for a company and on a team that I feel will grow into something enormously successful. Get in on the ground floor!

What’s your favorite quote?
“Every day is a noodle day.” Martin Yan.
You can only eat one food for the rest of your life. What is it?
I definitely can’t survive on only one food because I’m in love with many different foods. But, I would be remiss if I did not give a shout-out to the Migas Tacos at Veracruz All Natural.
If you could travel to work every day on a vehicle without wheels (think: hovercraft, broom), what would you choose?
Howl’s Moving Castle.
What’s your favorite fast food restaurant?
Popeyes.
What’s your favorite Saturday Night Live skit?
I have many. Pretty much anything with Christopher Walken. Iran So Far. Most recently, the skit with Chris Pine about RuPaul’s Drag Race.
