October at Updater: Office Library Launch, Tech Off-Site, and Halloween!

Every month the Updater Team is met with opportunities, challenges, and fun. This October was no exception. From a mission-driven tech off-site to conferences galore, our team continues to expand their industry knowledge and tackle crucial goals. As always, our hard work was paired with a side of fun thanks to our People Team who had a couple of festive tricks up their sleeve. Without further ado, sit back, relax, (grab your candy corn) and enjoy our October recap!

We Attended Weichert’s 2018 Sellebration

As part of our recent partnership with Weichert, our very own Andrea Barone and Chris Avery were invited to the beautiful Bahamas for Weichert’s 2018 Sellebration. Andrea and Chris had the opportunity to introduce Updater to broker owners and agents and further the gospel of how Updater benefits both brokerages and clients. They loved meeting industry leaders from coast to coast and returned home with valuable insights and sun-kissed skin — an all-around success!

The Engineering Team Hosted a Remarkable Tech Off-Site

The Updater Engineering Team understands the importance of moving quickly, so in order to keep their momentum going, every few months they take a step back and regroup by hosting off-sites to acknowledge wins, troubleshoot challenges, and re-prioritize agendas. This time around, each team member shared what they had accomplished since the last off-site, celebrating their successes and learning from their roadblocks. After a long day of re-aligning their vision and road mapping their goals for the future, our tech superheroes did some after-hours team building at Barcade in NYC. We’re excited to see what amazing things they’ll build next. Onward and upward, team!

We Attended Realty Executives International’s West Coast Conference

Greg Hicks and Chris Avery were on the go, yet again, attending Realty Executives International’s West Coast Conference in Scottsdale, AZ. Greg and Chris took part at the Scottsdale Performing Arts Center, complete with a keynote speech by NASCAR driver, Michael Waltrip. Chris and Greg had the opportunity to chat all things Updater with the brokers, owners, and agents in attendance, many of whom are Updater partners. It was great to see some familiar faces while also making new connections.

We Launched An Office Library

Our outstanding People Experience Coordinator, Ricki Halpern, put together an Updater Library on the sixth floor of our NYC headquarters. The team was encouraged to bring in old books to help jumpstart the eclectic library. We celebrated the launch of our library with a grand opening party complete with light bites, drinks, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. From horror and romance to cooking and coding, the team can now check in and check out whatever books they please. We’re looking forward to seeing our collection grow. Thank you, Ricki, for organizing our very own bookworm haven!

We Attended the BHHS Marketing Forum

Our Senior Director of Real Estate, Greg Hicks, attended Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices’ Marketing Forum this past month. The three-day event took place in lovely Park City, UT, where experts in the industry came together to share marketing concepts and ideas. Greg enjoyed meeting new faces, gaining new insights, and chatting about Updater. Thanks for putting on a great event, BHHS!

We Attended John L. Scott Realty’s Elevate Convention

Chris Avery rounded out his third and final trip of the month in Washington for the John L. Scott Realty Elevate Convention. This all-day event was stocked with motivational speakers, thought-provoking breakout sessions, and special giveaways. The convention was complete with a trade show featuring innovative industry vendors. We were so proud to be one of them! Chris enjoyed networking with attendees, learning about John L. Scott initiatives, and brainstorming strategies for success. Great work, Chris!

We Celebrated Halloween In Style

When October 31 rolls around, you better believe we’re celebrating in style! This year, our NYC team got in the Halloween spirit by decking out in their very best costumes for an office Halloween party — organized by everyone’s favorite duo, Ricki Halpern and Ashley Lunsford. From loaded nachos to a spooky cookie graveyard, the food and drink was off the charts.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Updater event without a little friendly competition. Cue the candy corn jar guessing and the costume contest! Congrats to all of the winners — your bragging rights are now in full effect. Check out the amazing photos below!

That wraps up this month’s recap! Make sure to check back in next month to see what moves we make next. In the meantime, stay connected with us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
