Madera community sees simplicity of move-ins post-Updater

In the hustle and bustle of property management, managing move-ins can feel like running on empty — except no one wants a low battery when they’re supposed to be helping! And Maya Ursin, Community Manager at Marcella Memorial Heights – managed by Madera Residential – was feeling just that before discovering Updater | Onboarding Pro

With eight years’ experience, Maya has put in lots of time managing move-ins simultaneously, without any tech support. She’s also been in the shoes of her residents — literally — remembering the disorienting feeling of confusion when moving into a new community. “I received my keys after hours, and had no idea how to navigate the community or any of their platforms,” she shares.

It’s a common story for many new residents: getting keys after hours, most likely because they still had paperwork to complete. This kind of delay can slow down the entire move-in day, potentially costing more money if movers are on the clock.

So when Updater dropped into her life a few years ago, Maya’s team witnessed a drastic reduction in chaos. Consolidating resources used to be the most difficult part of managing move-ins, but since launching Updater, that’s no longer a problem.

One of Maya’s favorite tools? The rejection task feature. “It keeps the team and residents on-task,” she says.

How? Let’s say a resident uploads the wrong document a property is requesting, some details are incorrect, or more information is needed. Leasing teams can reject that task, providing details about why it was rejected and what needs to change. This lets a resident quickly address or correct any issues — versus finding out on moving day that the property doesn’t have all the information needed for move-in.

“[The residents] absolutely love it. It allows them to feel in control of the process,” she says.

And with Updater in place, Maya and her team can further enhance the resident experience with personal touches, like move-in appointments, thank-you cards, and in-person greetings.

Maya has also noticed an increase in renewals since using Updater, reinforcing industry data that shows satisfied residents are much more likely to stick around. In fact, the renewal rate for residents who were satisfied at move-in was 59% higher than those who were dissatisfied at move-in. Simple, seamless processes and renewals? Yes, please!

As Maya puts it, “Updater has all the information in one place, and it prepares you long before your move-in date.” It’s more than just a tool—it’s a game-changer.
