Who is WOW! TV for?
WideOpenWest, better known as WOW!, currently covers 863 zip codes in nine states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee. It is the sixth-largest cable operator in the U.S. and generally offers its TV customers three cable packages. Customers also have an option to upgrade to a WOW TV+ plan which combines the power of cable with the convenience of streaming services.
The WOW! Small Cable package lives up to its name and offers a limited selection of 90 channels. There are no premium channels included with this option and it’s missing fan-favorites such as the Weather Channel, however, if your household is more interested in access to local channels this could be an option for you.
WOW! TV’s middle-tier option, WOW! Medium Cable, offers almost twice the number of channels as the Small Cable package coming in at 150 channels and including family-friendly favorites such as Nickelodeon and Travel channel. You’ll also get to choose one premium channel (HBO, SHOWTIME, Cinemax, or STARZ) with this package.
If you’re a sports fan or looking for a wider variety of channels to choose from, the WOW! Large Cable package includes 260 channels, your choice of one premium channel (HBO, SHOWTIME, Cinemax, or STARZ), and football fan’s favorite – NFL Network.
If your home subscribes to WOW! internet service of at least 100Mbps and also subscribes to a WOW! TV plan, you can upgrade for $10 a month* to a WOW TV+ set-top box that connects to your WiFi, allows you to stream from all your favorite apps, and comes equipped with DVR and voice control. Additionally, you may upgrade to the WOW! Ultra service which gives you access to thousands of on-demand titles. This upgrade is generally around $25/month, however pricing and availability varies by market.*
Key considerations
Contract Requirements
While WOW! TV offers the option to pay month-to-month, you’ll need to sign a 12 to 24-month contract if you want to lock in their best prices. Keep in mind, however, WOW! TV only offers a 30 day cancellation period and you may be responsible for cancellation fees if you terminate service after the first 30 days. Also, note that prices will increase after your contract ends.
Pricing
The price for each package varies by market and WOW! prefers its customers bundle internet and TV. However, pricing is generally considered to be competitive in each market where WOW! offers TV and internet services.
DVR Capabilities
If DVR capabilities are important to you, WOW! TV’s basic DVR option starts at $10/month however, it has limited storage capability. If you want the ability to record and store more than a few shows, you’ll need to upgrade your service which may cost as much as $25/month depending on your storage needs.
What others say about WOW! TV
Though WOW! TV might not be considered a big name in many markets, WOW! cable TV reviews by respected industry leaders are very positive. A recent review by CNET said, “It may not be as familiar as rival telecoms AT&T or Cox, but this provider is a key player in several states.” The company as a whole also currently has an A- rating with the BBB.
How does WOW! TV compare to other providers?
Though WOW! TV does not have a footprint as large as AT&T and Comcast, our overall opinion is that the service holds its own in terms of affordability and channel options in the markets it serves. WOW! Ultra TV reviews also name this new streaming service as a favorable upgrade option.
