April at Updater: Videos, Awards, and a TV Appearance!

With the warm weather finally upon us, we’re excited for all that spring has to offer — this includes the official start of moving season, our favorite season! But before we jump headfirst into the spring and summer months, let’s take a few moments to acknowledge all we’ve accomplished this April. As usual, it was a jam-packed 4 weeks that only got us excited for more!

We Attended AMSA’s 2018 Conference

One of our all-time favorite events, AMSA, held a special meaning to us this year with Updater being awarded the prestigious AMSA Summit Award for 2017. Not only were we humbled to accept this award in front of the entire industry but we were excited to present a video that uniquely describes our passion and commitment to the relocation industry. Beyond the Summit Award, this AMSA conference was a groundbreaking year for us. We officially introduced MoveHQ — a wholly-owned subsidiary of Updater — to the industry (and world)! While IGC and ACI have attended many AMSA conferences, this was the first since they merged to form MoveHQ. We also hosted an epic party for the industry, complete with dancing, MoveHQ-branded cigars, and tons of delicious food. The venue was beyond gorgeous and fun was had by all. We Hosted a Customer Success Event and Panel

Mid-month we were honored to host a Pulse Local event and panel. The Topic, Accelerating Your Success Career, drew over 40 NYC-based customer success professionals from across the city. Moderated by our VP of Client Success, Chad Horenfeldt, the panel included Elizabeth Quispe (Customer Success at Alpha), Malicia Basdeo (Strategic Accounts at Bitly), and our very own Samantha Burkley!

A few of the common themes that emerged during the panel were the importance of staying curious and asking questions, how to stay connected in the industry, and going above and beyond to stand out to your manager. It was a wonderful evening of schmoozing and education and got us excited to host additional events within the NYC tech community!

Our Marketing Director Appeared on Cheddar TV

Lights, camera, action! From the floor of the NYSE, Updater’s Marketing Director, Jenna Weinerman, spoke with Nora Ali and Brad Smith of Cheddar. With May — National Moving Month — just around the corner, Jenna lent her knowledge to the segment with key advice on how to find a moving company, how to spot rogue movers, and a few useful tips and tricks for those moving this season. She also highlighted how Updater is helping relieve many of the stressors of moving.


One the perks of working at Updater is the dedication that the company has to foster growth and development for the careers of its employees. This includes holding regular LifeLab learning sessions where employees learn tactics for communication, time management, and career growth. This month our staff focused on giving high-quality feedback — where we practiced the art of giving, receiving, and requesting constructive criticism. We walked away with actionable tools and the confidence to communicate more effectively with our co-workers.

Our VP of People Spoke at HR Transform

Updater’s VP of People, Lindsey Dole, spoke earlier this month at HR Transform — a two-day conference that brings together HR-focused startups, investors funding these startups, as well as the elite executives driving HR strategy for their organizations. HR Transform covered topics from artificial intelligence to employee wellness and the implications these topics have on the future of HR.

Moving Season is Starting to Pick Up!

Moving season has started to pick up and we are prepared to ease your stress. Life has enough challenges and struggling, finding a moving company shouldn’t be one of them. Updater’s Insurance Division Held Its First Team Offsite

This month, Updater’s Insurance Division just held its first team offsite at our sunny Charlottesville office. The team met for 48 hours of team building, brainstorming, and planning. Every Insurance team member had the chance to present their latest wins, accomplishments, and recent findings. We all walked away with one common objective: revolutionizing the customer experience for movers in need of insurance solutions.

We Attended the T3 Summit

Last, but of course not least, this month we attended the T3 Summit, an invite-only think tank for the real estate industry. The sixth annual summit was held in Miami, FL and included discussions and panels on real estate trends and the future of the industry. Updater VP of Real Estate, Chris Avery, attended this year’s conference where he met with some of the industry’s leading professionals. Speakers this year included: former co-CEO of Whole Foods, Walter Robb and the CEO of Zillow Group, Spencer Rascoff.
