Lauren Takes Southern California: Site Visit Road Trip

After an incredible 2017 AMSA conference, I decided to hit the road and visit some of our partners in the San Diego area. In addition to some delicious tacos and amazing views, I caught up with our friends at Priority Moving, Republic Moving & Storage, Ace Relocation, Bernardo Moving and Storage, Avalon Fashion Valley, and AVA Pacific Beach.

Day 1

After saying goodbye to beautiful Palm Springs, my first stop on the road (aside from Krispie Kreme) was to see Gary Bell and Bill Lovejoy over at Republic Moving & Storage.

While sporting a bright yellow safety vest, Gary gave me a tour of their awesome warehouse (check out the motorcycle below), and introduced me to his hard-working team. I saw one of his team members do a video survey from her desk and a live map with all of their trucks in the dispatch room. We talked about the different ways they let their customers know about their Updater offering and all of the awesome and new technology Bill Lovejoy brings to his company.

Because my fellow Success Manager Landis was back East enjoying some chillier weather, I paid a visit to the teams over at AVA Fashion Valley and AVA Pacific Beach. Their lobbies are so nice that I seriously considered packing up and moving in! After my visits, my friends brought me to Mike’s Taco Club in the Ocean Beach neighborhood of San Diego. There I ate, without exception, the best fish tacos I’ve ever had. I repeat, the best fish tacos I’ve ever had. If you live there or are visiting, I highly recommend it. After watching a beautiful sunset, we went to family-owned Mariposa Ice Cream, where I spotted a photo of the Patron Saint of San Diego himself, Ron Burgundy, on the wall.

Day 2

Missing out on 24-degree weather in NYC, I put on my Move For Hunger Truck Pull t-shirt and headed to visit Craig and Francesca over at Ace Relocation. Craig and his team are Updater all-stars and they do an incredible job as a marketing powerhouse. After a tour, we headed to lunch at the Torrey Pines Golf Course. After some laughs and incredible views, we headed back for our photoshoot (below). I even scored an Ace Relocation shirt. Thanks, Francesca!

My last stop on my California road show was to visit David and his team over at Bernardo Moving and Storage. After dropping off some Updater swag (including our brand-new golf tees), I headed back to Mike’s Taco Club for a California burrito with salmon (did I mention that it was the best?).

The rest of the trip consisted of some hikes (recommended spots include Ho Chi Minh trail in Torrey Pines and La Jolla Cove) and more great food. Honorable mentions go to: Rockin’ Baja Lobster Coastal Cantina for the self-serve salsa bar, Harney Sushi for the garlic edamame, Rudford’s Restaurant for the classic eggs-over-easy breakfast and, last but not least, Soda & Swine for the crispy polenta and frozen mimosa cocktail.
