Where People Want to Move, According to Google
Search queries and trends reveal an awful lot about what people are thinking, their intentions, their fears, and their curiosities. That’s why examining this data in aggregate can be so revealing about who we Americans are as a whole.
We recently looked into how search queries can suggest moving trends and patterns and discovered that – as a country – we are obsessed with moving to warm climates.
What Northerner doesn’t dream of wearing shorts and flip-flops in January or having a healthy, sun-kissed glow year-round? We sure do.
We examined 100 of the most popular Google search queries of 2018 relating to moving to another city or state. Here’s the top 10:
-
Moving to California
-
Moving to Texas
-
Moving to Florida
-
Moving to Canada
-
Moving to another state
-
Moving to Vegas
-
Moving to Las Vegas
-
Moving to Colorado
-
Moving to New York
-
Moving to Los Angeles
Six out of the top 10 searches were queries indicating an intent to move to warmer climates. As it turns out, the top three desired destinations (CA, TX, and FL) were searched for mainly by people currently in colder climates including Oregon, Washington, Illinois, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts.
We’re definitely not surprised. Who wants to deal with this?
Of course, this data doesn’t tell us where people are actually moving to and from. If you’re interested in digging deeper, check out our Moving Trends blog and our 2018 Moving Destinations Report.
