We hate to say it, but you’ll need to visit the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles in person. You can prepare online, but you must go to a Driver’s License Office to complete the process.

What will I need?

When do I need to get a new driver’s license?

Act fast — you’ll need to visit the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle office within 30 days of your move.

Do I need to take a driving test?

Nope, no testing is required if you hold a valid driver’s license from any U.S. state, Canada, France, Germany, the Republic of South Korea, or Taiwan. Save your real driving skills for the road. You will, however, have to pass a vision exam.

Is there a fee?

Ah, the age-old question. Colorado charges a fee to purchase a new license.

Yes.

Where can I register my vehicle?

You’ll need to visit the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles in person. Sorry to say, but services are not available online. You will need to change your out-of-state title to a Colorado title before you register your vehicle. Visit the New to Colorado page and scroll down to the Vehicle Title and Fast Facts section.

  • Your Title and/or Registration Application
  • Proof of Identity
  • Proof of Insurance

When do I need to register my vehicle?

Don’t sit on it — you’ll need to register your vehicle within 90 days of your move.

Is there a fee?

We don’t fault you for asking. Fees are determined by empty weight and type of vehicle, additional fees may be collected depending on the County of registration and type of license plate selected. Visit the fees page for more information.
