Both of these internet services providers (ISPs) have two types of internet services: copper and fiber. Across the board, fiber internet offers much higher speeds, but copper internet is adequate for homes with light internet needs.
If AT&T fiber is available in your area, it’s worth considering for all your home internet needs, especially if several devices will be streaming video or gaming online simultaneously. These situations require a lot of bandwidth, so a 1000 Mbps internet plan is ideal. The affordability of AT&T’s $80/month Internet 1000 plan makes it an attractive option.
For households with very light internet usage and little to no high definition (HD) video streaming or gaming, a copper package is a reasonable choice. Both ISPs offer copper internet service, but on the lowest-tiered plan, Frontier is the more affordable option.
Comparison of internet services
AT&T’s fiber internet offerings have speeds ranging from 300 Mbps to 5000 Mbps. The cost of these plans, for the first year of service, ranges from $55 to $180/month. This makes AT&T an extremely cost-effective service for superb internet speed.
AT&T’s copper internet plans range from 25 to 100 Mbps and costs $55/month. While it may seem counterintuitive for the price to remain the same regardless of speed, this is because different speeds are available only in particular regions. AT&T’s copper internet does have a 1 TB data cap, so this is something to consider if you’re a heavy data user.
The speeds of Frontier’s fiber internet plans range from 50 Mbps to 1000 Mbps, at the first-year price of $49.99 to 79.99. If you need high-speed fiber internet and have the option of either of these ISPs, AT&T is a better value, as Frontier’s base level 50 Mbps plan is only a $30 savings compared to AT&T’s Internet 1000 plan.
When it comes to copper internet, Frontier has the most cost-effective option at the low end of the spectrum. Speeds range from 9 to 115 Mbps with a price range of $37.99-54.99 per month. These speeds are very limited, but the price for the lowest level plan is affordable compared to the competition. Unlike AT&T, Frontier’s copper internet plans come with unlimited data, making it the better choice for households that use more than 1 TB of data each month.
