From tracking your finances to delivering your groceries, there are a variety of apps available to ease the stresses of life during your move.

With all of the options out there, sifting through them can be a real headache. Who has time for that?

We understand that you’re busy (you’re prepping for a move, after all!) so we went ahead and gathered the best and most useful apps for moving. In this guide, you’ll discover the only apps you need to download to support your upcoming move.

Apps for packing and moving

There’s a lot to do when you’re staring down a move, including figuring out your budget and paring down your belongings. Fortunately, there are excellent apps for moving that help you keep it all organized.

Updater

Updater really is the best app for all things moving. With Updater, you can change your mailing address and subscriptions so you don’t miss a thing once you move. You can also transfer utilities and set up new TV and internet service with ease. Best of all, you can book a moving company from your smartphone. Need to shop for insurance for your new place? You can even compare rates for home, renters, and auto insurance in one place. We take the pain out of all your biggest moving tasks and free up your time for other things (like creating your moving-day playlist).

UsedCardboardBoxes

The first step in packing is sourcing boxes. So where are you going to get them? Stalking the local grocery store is a pain, and buying new boxes isn’t exactly eco-friendly; especially when there are so many boxes being thrown away these days. UsedCardboardBoxes is your solution! This innovative company rescues old but still-sturdy boxes and sends them to you at deep discounts. It’s a sustainable and affordable way to pack all your stuff for the big move. Plus, they deliver their earth-friendly moving kits right to your door – no dumpster diving required!

Dolly

Worried about how you’ll get that queen-size bed down the steps and into a truck? Whether you need some extra muscle for a few items or a team to move a whole house full of furniture, Dolly pairs you with a helper to get the job done. Fast quotes and guaranteed pricing make this an affordable and hassle-free option to get all of your stuff loaded into your new place. You can also find helpers to deliver large items from local stores or do some donation runs with boxes of things you no longer need. Interested in picking up a side gig? You can join Dolly to help others with their moves once you get yourself settled in.

Apps for getting rid of your stuff

If you’re like most people, you’ll realize once you start packing that not everything you own is going to make the cut. What do you do with the things that you don’t want anymore? There’s an app for that!

OfferUp

Won’t need that snow blower when you move to LA? Sell it on OfferUp. OfferUp helps you make extra money off of your unwanted items. All you have to do is set up an account, take a few pictures of the items you want to sell, add the price, location, and a brief description, and you’re good to go!

ThreadUp

If you don’t have the time to hold a garage sale, you can still sell your excess clothing. ThreadUp buys high-quality clothing and accessories and resells them online. All you have to do is put your items in the FedEx bag that they send you. They accept clothing from 35,000 brands, so there’s a good chance they’ll buy what you’re selling. If not, they can donate it on your behalf.

MagicPlan

Not sure what furniture will fit into your new home? Create a 3D floor plan with MagicPlan and decorate the digital rooms from your phone. Simply upload photos of your new space, and the app will calculate its dimensions. Once you know what furniture will fit into your new home, you’ll know what you need to donate or leave on the curb.

Apps for organizing friends and family

Even if you hire a mover to do the heavy lifting, it helps to have a band of volunteers to help you get situated in your new home. But to make the most of their goodwill, you’ll need to keep them organized and on task with these helpful apps.

Todoist

Todoist is a lifesaver when it comes to preparing for your move. You can create to-do lists and set up reminders to keep you on schedule. Need help moving? You can delegate tasks and share your lists with friends and family to keep them in the loop as you move.

GrubHub

After a full day of moving, you’re bound to be hungry. Thankfully, GrubHub is great for scouting out the new food scene. Browse local restaurants, read their reviews, and keep the troops fed on moving day. With a few clicks, you can order straight from the menu and have everything delivered to your door.

Spotify

Getting back to the moving playlist we mentioned earlier, Spotify lets you create your own playlist and listen to collections curated by your friends. To keep everyone humming along, use the collaborative playlist feature to have your crew add songs to a special list for the big day. It’s a great way to keep everyone motivated!

Google Maps

You may not be aware of just how useful Google Maps is until moving day. Save gas by keeping an eye on traffic and leaving at the right time. You can calculate your commute and your proximity to restaurants, train stations, and local businesses in your new neighborhood. You can also share your location with others to make sure all your helpers are on the same page.

Apps to get you through the first days in a new place

When half of your stuff is still in boxes and your friends have gone home, it can take a little extra help to get settled in. No matter what you need, there’s an app that can help you get those last-step jobs done.

Thumbtack

From carpet cleaners to interior painters, Thumbtack has a database of qualified local professionals for hire. Whether you’re looking for someone to repair a door frame or help when a toilet leaks, Thumbtack provides access to the skilled professionals you need most.

Handy

Need help mounting your new flatscreen TV or putting together a set of kitchen chairs? Handy has your back. Their fully vetted pros will help you with a variety of handyman tasks inside the home to handle repairs and maintenance. They also offer a range of outdoor services like tree trimming and gutter cleaning. The previous owner left the place a mess? Call in the cleaners!

FreshDirect

So you stopped grocery shopping last week, but supplies are running low. Before you run out to the grocery store or splurge on the takeout, grab your grocery list and explore FreshDirect. Browse their online food store and even throw in a bottle of wine if you’re feeling it. Whatever you order, they promise to deliver in as little as one hour to keep your new pantry stocked.

Rover

Moving can be just as stressful for your furry friends as it is for you. To make sure your favorite four-legged friend gets what he needs, Rover provides a range of services including dog walking and boarding. They understand that pets are part of the family so they put a lot of care into selecting trustworthy dog walkers and sitters. You can get to know different sitters before you book them and keep tabs on your pet while you unpack.

Angi

One of the first things to do as you settle into your new home is to seek out any local businesses you might need. Do you have to find a good mechanic for your next oil change? How about an urgent care center or pharmacy? Chances are, you’re going to need these services soon, so it’s best to have a few trusted options at hand. Angi makes it easy to research and book the best-rated businesses in your new area.

Nextdoor

This app is an amazing resource when building connections in your new area. Nextdoor is a digital social network for your neighborhood. So, you can easily keep up with local events and get recommendations from neighbors. Did your cat run out after the moving team left the door open? Post a picture and a note on Nextdoor to help bring her home.
