Midco TV (short for Midcontinent Communications) currently serves more than 400,000 homes in five midwest states, including Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Though the company was once known for its traditional cable packages, it has evolved with the times to offer much more. Along with conventional cable options that allow you to choose local channels and bundle premium channels, the company also provides MidcoTV, which combines traditional options with thousands of on-demand titles.

Curious about what Midco TV has to offer? We’ve got you covered. We’ve gathered details about their TV options, key points to consider, and opinions about the company from industry experts to help you decide if Midco TV is the right fit for you and your household.

Who is Midco TV for?

Depending on your address, Midco TV offers up to six cable and four MidcoTV streaming packages. Each package has various options and pricing, allowing you to choose which features and price point work best for your household. Prices vary by location, so you will need to provide your service address to secure an accurate estimate.

Midco Cable TV

Midco cable TV offers something for everyone. Its entry-level package, the Limited Cable plan offers up to 15 HD and 90 standard channels, plus access to 6,000 on-demand titles.

If you’re looking for an option that’s a step up from the Limited Cable package but still easy on the wallet, the Essentials Cable package includes access to up to 25 HD and 105 standard channels as well as up to 9,000 on-demand titles.

Another option is the Basic Cable package, which isn’t very basic at all. This package will more than double the number of HD channels compared to the Essentials Cable package (65) plus add 40 more standard channels and 17,000 additional on-demand titles.

Looking for a bigger variety of channels but not a sports or movie buff? The Preferred Cable package offers up to 90 HD and 190 standard and movie channels and all the basic channels, plus up to 38,000 on-demand titles.

What if you have your eye on one particular premium movie channel but don’t need them all? In that case, the Theatre Suite package offers everything the Preferred Cable package does, plus one premium movie channel of your choice.

If you’re looking for a premium TV package, the Ultimate Theatre Suite is your best bet. This package provides up to 90 HD and 190 standard and movie channels and all the basic channels, plus up to 38,000 on-demand titles, five premium movie channels, and the Sports & Variety package.

MidcoTV is a streaming service, which means you’ll need high-speed internet access to take advantage of the service. However, you’ll have the advantage of being able to watch TV anywhere you have a connected smart device.

There are four packages available. The basic package MidcoTV 1 features 78 channels, including all your local channels and the Weather Channel, plus 6,000 on-demand titles. The top-end MidcoTV 4 package features 182 channels plus 38,000 on-demand titles. Channel packages and pricing vary according to your address.

Key considerations

Does Midco TV require a long-term contract?

No. Midco TV does not require you to sign a contract, so you can cancel services anytime without worrying about early termination charges.

How long is the price locked in?

When you sign up for service, your price is guaranteed not to increase for the first 12 months.

Does Midco TV charge additional fees?

Midco TV taxes and fees may vary according to where you live. In addition to monthly taxes and fees, you may also need to pay a one-time fee of $100 for professional installation. While Midco TV charges monthly equipment rental fees, the equipment price will vary according to where you live and which package you choose. Typical equipment fees range from $6 to $8/month.

Does Midco TV offer contract buyout services?

Yes. If you are stuck in a long-term contract with another provider and want to switch to Midco TV, you may qualify to receive up to a $300 bill credit when you switch services. Midco Cable Limited and Internet 50 packages do not qualify, however. Also, you must keep your Midco TV service for 12 months after the contract buyout, or Midco will apply the credit back to your account.

What others say about Midco TV

With a smaller service area compared to other cable and streaming TV providers, Midco TV has flown under the radar of many national industry review experts. Still, the company as a whole is making waves in the industry.

  • In 2021, Midco was ranked #1 in the West region for customer satisfaction by JD Power and Associates. While this award focused on Midco internet customer satisfaction, it’s not hard to imagine that this same award-winning customer service can be found with Midco TV services.
  • Midco currently has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau which means the company is excelling in handling customer complaints, maintaining transparent business practices, and honoring its commitments.

How does Midco TV compare to other providers?

Due to its smaller footprint and small-market service areas, Midco Cable TV doesn’t go head to head with big-name providers on a large scale very often. Instead, it is typically up against companies in the streaming TV category, such as Mediacom and DIRECTV STREAM, since these services can be accessed wherever a high-speed internet connection is available.

Midco TV vs Mediacom

Midco TV and Mediacom compete in the streaming TV category. Mediacom TV can only be bundled with Mediacom internet, while Midco TV offers cable as an alternative option for homes that don’t have (or want) high-speed internet.

Overall, Midco TV offers a much larger variety of streaming channel options per package compared to Mediacom.

Midco TV vs DIRECTV STREAM

Though DIRECTV STREAM also offers four streaming packages, MidcoTV has them beat in terms of channel sections. DIRECTV STREAM packages range from 65 to 140 channels, while MidcoTV streaming TV packages range from 78 to 182 channels.
