Do you live in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania? If so, you might be in the service area for Optimum TV. With a high-speed internet connection of up to 940Mbps and over 420 channels, they are the fourth-largest cable provider in the United States and a significant telecommunications company.

Who is Optimum TV for?

Only available in the greater New York area, Optimum’s TV services provide a cost-effective alternative to other services for individuals who live there. Also, depending on where you live specifically, some of its services might not be available.

That said, for those who are in the company’s service area, Optimum offers a range of TV options. Its Optimum Core package is $59.99 and includes 220+ channels. For people who want more variety, Optimum has a package called OptimumSelect that is $74/month for 340+ channels or choose Optimum Premier to get 420+ channels for $94/month.

Plus, if you like all your cable and internet plans bundled into a single subscription or you want to do a lot of customization, Optimum has a package called FlexAbility that allows you to tweak your internet and TV plans to your specifications. As an added advantage, Optimum does not require you to sign a contract, unlike some of its competitors.*

Key considerations

How good is Optimum’s TV service?

The quality of service you get from Optimum largely depends on your location. If you live in a very densely populated part of the Tri-State area, some plans may not be available to you.

Do Optimum TV’s services come with contracts?

No. If contracts make you uncomfortable, Optimum is a strong option, as it doesn’t require any sort of long-term commitments.

Do you spend most of your time online and relatively little time on television?

If you are interested in local and regional sports content, a plan that concentrates on the internet may ensure that you only pay for what you require and that you may continue to enjoy your content uninterrupted.

What others say about Optimum TV

Optimum is a small company. It isn’t included in many of the popular review sites. On Consumer Affairs, Azeem of Hamilton Square, NJ says, “We are with Optimum for well over thirty years. Everything is just fine. Did not look beyond Optimum and recommend it.”

How does Optimum TV compare to other providers?

Optimum TV competes directly with DIRECTV, which is the largest cable provider in the United States. It offers a greater number of channels in its Premium TV plan for a lower price. However, they do not offer as many sports channels as DIRECTV, since DIRECTV holds some exclusive rights.

When compared to Dish Network, Optimum has a lot to offer. Dish Network provides 290+ channels for $104.99/month. Optimum’s internet service is also comparatively better than that offered by Dish Network’s partner providers.
