Austin is the City of Entertainment for Texas Movers

Movers in 2017 chose the Austin metro area as one of the most popular destinations to move to this year. Austin came in at #6 on Updater’s list of most popular moving destinations for 2017 which ranked the top 15 most moved-to destinations in America.

These aggregated moving trends were determined by programmatically analyzing 1,000,0000 anonymous household moves that took place between Jan. 1 and Oct. 1, 2017.

With a brief scan of the culture the city has built — food, music, and social scenes — this comes as no surprise. Let’s take a look in more detail at why Austin made the top 15.

A huge draw for Austin is its music scene, with more live music venues per capita than anywhere else in the nation. On top of its entertainment roots, Austin ranks as one of the best places to start a business and ranks in the top 10 for biggest boomtown economies in 2017.

Austin is also home to major festivals such as South by Southwest (SXSW), Fun Fun Fun Fest, and Austin City Limits. They also host major comedy festivals such as the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival and the Moontower Comedy Festival. Austin also hosts the X Games.

Austin natives and residents pride themselves on their mission to “keep Austin weird,” while the city’s aim to promote small businesses and the local food scene contributes to the outstanding quality of life for its citizens.

Updater Business Recruiter, Mary Beth Cook, attended the University of Texas at Austin and had this to say about the city:

Whether you’re into outdoor activities, live music, sports, art, or food, the city has something to offer pretty much everyone. Even though Austin has a diverse population that’s been growing exponentially over the past 10 years, the city still manages to maintain a friendly, inclusive college-town feel. It’s an easy place to feel at home.

The housing market in Austin has a median home price of 325K and an average household income of just over 71K. A healthy housing market and high income make the city an attractive place for young entrepreneurs and families looking for a fun place to call home.
