L.A. Metro Area Tops West Coast Moving Destinations for 2017

Home to the Lakers, the glitz and glam of Hollywood, and some of the best weather in the nation, it’s no wonder that the Los Angeles metro area is the top moving destination on the West Coast for 2017 — according to Updater’s annual moving destinations report. Los Angeles also clocks in as the third most moved-to destination in the nation.

These aggregated moving trends were determined by programmatically analyzing 1,000,0000 anonymous household moves that took place between Jan. 1 and Oct. 1, 2017.

The report, which ranks the top 15 most moved-to destinations, shows L.A. as the most popular moving destination on the West Coast — beating out other West Coast metro areas San Francisco and Seattle.

As the second-most densely populated area in the country, with a population of over 13 million, L.A. has the second-largest economy of any U.S. city. This bustling economy, coupled with beautiful weather, makes L.A. an attractive location for those looking for an urban locale. With a median home price of around 460K and an average household income of nearly 66K, the city is also an inviting prospect for anyone looking to ‘make it’ in Hollywood.

Updater’s Content Marketing Manager, Sara Sugar, had this to say about her stint in the City of Angels:

You can also go from the beach to the mountains in less than an hour — you never need to choose. It’s also an incredibly diverse city. It’s the holy trifecta: weather, people, and food.

Below are a few more stats about why L.A. is the most popular moving destination on the West Coast.
