Meet Updater: Linda Underwood, Lead Product Manager

Please say “hello” to Linda Underwood, our Lead Product Manager, who loves both knitting and motorcycles equally. Yes, it is possible. Linda joined Updater’s Product team in 2019 and has been loving it ever since.

Where are you from?

New Jersey

What are two personal tidbits most people don’t know about you?

I love knitting and have made dozens of handmade items for myself and as gifts!

I ride a motorcycle – a Triumph Bonneville – and am part of an all-woman’s motorcycle club called the Miss-Fires.

Linda and her husband, James…who also works at Updater as our Senior IT Manager!

So, a motorcycle isn’t a great vehicle to help you move. Have you ever had to carry items on public transportation during a move?

I once took a giant potted fig tree on the subway, haha.

Sounds like an adventure. Do you have a moving horror story?

Yes! (Don’t we all? Haha!) I once had to move out of my place because the owner was selling. I got a great new apartment but it was being renovated and I couldn’t move in until 6 weeks later. I had to move twice in two months! Once to put all my stuff in storage so I could stay at a temporary spot, and again when my new place was all ready! It was worth it in the end, though. I’ve been in the same apartment now for 7 years!

Twice in two months is a lot. You must be an expert at moving now. What’s your best piece of moving advice?

Make a plan! It’s much easier to get all the little odds and ends done when you have a few spare minutes if you have a list of exactly what needs to be done and don’t have to remember every little detail.

Even though you’ve been in the same place for 7 years now, what would you never do again for the next move?

I will never pack and bring things I don’t need anymore – I’ve learned my lesson to sell/donate/purge and only move what I actually need and want!

Your expertise is well-placed at Updater! How did you come to work here, anyway?

I was a working at a consultancy and got to work on an Updater project for a few months. After meeting the team and getting hands-on exposure to what kinds of projects I would get to work on, it was a no-brainer to join full time!

It was a no-brainer for us, too! What motivates you to come to work every day?

My teammates and the millions of people who move every year – if we can make their lives easier, that’s hugely satisfying and a great motivator to come to work every day 🙂

Bonus question: what’s the first app you check in the morning?

Usually, email.
