Team Updater Participates in Tunnel to Towers 5K for the 4th Year

For the last four years, Updateers have participated in the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run. The event, presented by The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, pays tribute to fallen FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who heroically gave his life to help others during the September 11 attacks.

Today, the Foundation also honors first responders and service members who put their lives on the line for our freedom. With such a worthy mission, it’s no surprise that the event has grown tremendously in popularity. This year, 30,000 people participated, according to WCBS – that number includes 17 Updateers!

We also ran in support of our charitable partner, Move for Hunger. This organization teams up with moving, relocation, and property management companies to collect non-perishable foods that are often thrown out during a move, and deliver them to local food banks. For our team, participating in this 5K provides an opportunity to support not only one outstanding cause but two!

Amanda Amato, Senior Marketing Manager, first attended the event with her college soccer team in 2006. She has watched the 5K grow over time and is always impressed with how moving it is.

“The Tunnel to Towers race is an extremely touching and emotional event,” she said. “It’s something that, as a New York-based company, we’re really proud to participate in on behalf of two great charities.”

Madison Escobar, Recruiting Coordinator, agrees.

“It’s so great to be apart of something that is affecting your direct community,” she said. “It’s important for Updater to be involved because it shows we really are made in New York. Our employees live here, our team is based here, we want to support the people and the amazing city around us.”

Team Updater raised over $3,000 for these organizations. We’re already looking forward to next year’s race and supporting these amazing causes again!
