Moving is a time-consuming process. The last thing anyone wants while moving is additional stress caused by hiring the wrong moving company. For this reason, most people don’t hire just any movers. Instead, they look for professionals with a good reputation who will provide top-notch service.

If you moved recently, you can help others by providing an online review. Whether you had a positive experience or a lackluster one, providing honest feedback can help others make an informed decision when hiring moving companies.

We’ve compiled this guide to help you understand how you can write valuable mover reviews. Our guide highlight what points to cover to help others understand what they may expect when hiring a moving company.

Where to post reviews online?

The first step is to decide where to post your review. While you can share your experiences on social media or on your blog, only followers and readers will be exposed to them there. By publishing your reviews on sites with lots of visitors you can help more people by recommending or warning them about the moving companies you’ve worked with thus far.

  • Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB is an organization that focuses on advancing consumer trust by providing accurate information on how companies perform. In addition to posting reviews on the BBB site, you can file complaints if you have had a negative experience that needs remedying.
  • Yelp. Yelp focuses on crowd-sourcing reviews on local businesses. Many people turn to Yelp to find information on businesses, so posting a review on the site can be very valuable.
  • Google. As the top-rated search engine in the world, Google is the first place people often turn to discover a business. Google also provides company listings, maps, and reviews to help consumers learn more about a company before doing business with them.
  • Facebook. The world’s #1 social media site, Facebook, provides an option for users to identify whether or not they would recommend a business to others. People can also supply commentary about their experiences with businesses.
  • Angi. Formed by the merger of Angie’s List and Home Advisor, Angi is a prime spot for people looking for home-related services. The site collects star ratings and reviews and endorses companies that maintain high ratings as “Angi-certified.”

The great thing about leaving reviews on these sites is that the moving companies have an opportunity to reply to your post. They can either set things right by fixing their mistakes or thank you for recognizing a job well done. Either way, their response to your review should help more people decide whether to choose them as their mover or not.

What to include in a mover review

How you structure your mover review will impact how much benefit readers get. You want to present the information they must know about the company and what they should expect from it based on your experiences.

To help you write your review in a way readers will understand, we recommend discussing the following:

Include basic details and company contact information

As you share your experience, you should provide specific information about the movers you hired. You should list the name of the company and/or branch location that handled your move.

Additionally, you should talk about how you learned about them. Then, you can cover your reasons for choosing to hire them and not other moving companies. You should also provide perspective on the date, time, and location of the move.

Talk about punctuality

A move is off to a good start if your movers arrive on time on the first day. It speaks volumes about the company’s professionalism, organizational skills, and respect for you as a customer.

Punctuality-related points you may want to discuss include:

  • How do they handle unexpected delays like weather problems and traffic?
  • How do they estimate the necessary time to deliver their services?
  • How do they respond to unexpected changes to expected workload, timing, etc.?

Discuss the services provided

Depending on your needs, movers may simply move possessions from point A to point B, but other moves require various services. Some moving companies provide packing, junk removal, furniture disassembly and assembly, and more. Your review should clarify what specific services your movers provided and how they performed in each area.

You can also discuss if the company provided any value-added services that enhanced your move experience. For example, some moving firms provide user-friendly inventory management software that helps you catalog your possessions and receive more accurate estimates up front. Capabilities like these can streamline the moving process, leading to a more positive experience overall.

On the other hand, some companies may not have modern software but excel at providing quality customer support. These movers may deliver friendly, personalized moving experiences that set them apart from competitors.

Regardless of using new or traditional methods, what matters is they competently complete the job as promised. Other points you may want to discuss include:

  • Are the costs of their services reasonable?
  • Did they perform the work as expected?
  • Would you refer them to family and friends?

Share your experience

As mentioned, you should inform readers of what happened and how it happened. By being genuine and discussing accurate details, you can provide a clear picture of your experience.

Were the services of your moving company satisfactory? Or did they go above and beyond? You’ll want to share this positive sentiment in your review. It’s equally important to be honest about negative experiences, although you should avoid using accusatory or defamatory language.

If you want to create a credible review, you should pay close attention to using proper sentence structures and grammar. Also, you should keep your review reasonably short to make it readable. Many people won’t have the patience to wade through a long-winded review online.

Post photos

Some sites allow you to post photos to supplement your reviews. Often, images can give an important perspective and can catch the eyes of people scrolling through reviews. For example, if the movers damaged a prize possession or left muddy footprints on your new home’s carpet, a picture can tell that story. Photos can also convey that your movers neatly organized boxes to help make your unpacking job easier.

Write high-value mover reviews

When writing mover reviews, include information you would want when hiring a moving company. What do you wish you would have known in advance? What would you do differently to improve the experience with your movers? Answering questions like these can add value and support others in making the best decision for their own moves.
