If Optimum internet is available in your area, it’s definitely an option worth considering. Though its coverages spans only four states, Optimum reaches over 12 million people, making it one of the largest cable internet providers in the US. Two features that make Optimum stand out are the price-for-life guarantee offered on many of its plans and its high speed. In fact, even its lowest speed is much faster than the lowest speed offered by most other cable internet providers.

Who is Optimum internet for?

With the Optimum 300 plan, you can get speeds of up to 300Mbps for $40/month with unlimited data. This plan is more than sufficient for smaller families that stream HD videos on multiple devices. The Optimum 500 plan offers 500Mbps for $65/month and can easily handle fully connected homes as well as 4K Ultra HD video streaming. If you are a gamer or have a large home network, you may want to go for the Optimum 1 Gig plan that offers 940Mbps for $75/month.*

What others say about Optimum internet

A review on CNET gave Optimum high marks for fast speeds, low prices, and high overall value. “Add in that its plans come with unlimited data, a low equipment fee and no required contracts, and choosing Optimum for your home internet service seems like a no-brainer.”

According to a review published on U.S. News, Optimum’s 1 Gig plan would work not only for typical online activities but also for gaming: “Gamers can also comfortably use this plan and not worry about lagging and freezing during their gaming sessions. The plan also features built-in internet security that alerts you when it identifies potential online threats.”

For customer satisfaction, the American Customer Satisfaction Index gave Optimum score of 60 out of 100 in 2021.

How does Optimum internet compare to other providers?

In terms of internet service coverage, three of Optimum’s competitors are Spectrum, Xfinity, and Verizon.

Optimum has lower introductory pricing than Spectrum and Xfinity. It also has a larger fiber footprint in the greater NYC area than Xfinity or Spectrum, so you can expect to get faster upload speeds.

When compared with Verizon, both providers offer fiber internet. Along with fiber, Verizon provides DSL while Optimum provides cable. Optimum’s cable plans offer a great megabit/dollar value if you are looking for fast downloads only. Both providers don’t require a contract, however, Verizon does require auto-pay.
