Here’s a First Look at the New Updater Office
It’s been a big year in the Updater universe — from signing most of the NMHC top 50 (including Fairfield Residential and Pinnacle Property Management), to launching a product offering for mortgage companies, to ranking #3 on Crain’s Best Places to Work in NYC… the list goes on! It takes a village to make all of this happen, and our village has grown rapidly over the past year. So without further ado…
Breaking news: We’re moving to a bigger office next month!
And not just any office, but a sprawling penthouse overlooking Union Square. (Rumor has it that Grace Jones once lived there.) The building was built in 1913, and since then, the very same office has housed some amazing companies, such as Compass Real Estate, FanDuel, and Pandora. What else is unique about our new space?
Not just your average bar stools
A moment of silence; some very beautiful trees gave their lives so the Updater team could sit on handcrafted stools designed by Cord Industries in the UK. Take a look at this fine cherrywood stool seat and you’ll understand.
You can even watch a time-lapse video of our stools being made! Check it out over on Cord Industries’s Instagram.
Custom millwork and steelwork
We have an all-star roster making our new space more efficient, elegant, and unforgettable. Carly Jacobson of TPG Architecture, who previously designed Spotify’s office, is our main designer, Paul Maslov of InsideSquad Inc. — who has worked on Blue Apron, Refinery29, Buzzfeed, and Venmo — is doing custom millwork and steelwork, and Sandeep Salter is doing custom millwork for our conference room tables.
Original artwork and lush plants
Why stop at furniture? We also have green thumb goddess Eliza Blank bringing the great outdoors inside for us. Previously, she carefully curated the plants for the trendy likes of Twitter, Bitly, and Kate Spade.
Last but certainly not least, we’ll also have custom artwork by Greg Kletsel, whose incredible work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Playboy, Entertainment Weekly, ESPN, and elsewhere on the web and in print.
Basically, we’ve all but shampooed the floors in preparation for our big move to Union Square. We couldn’t be more excited to share the news about this exciting change, and to be growing our village in an upgraded office. More to come when we move in this January!
If you worked here, you’d be home already! Something like that. Anyway, interested in joining our team?
