We are pleased to announce that Instagram marketing veteran Jeffrey Gerson has joined our leadership team as Chief Marketing Officer. In this role, Jeffrey will lead and scale Updater’s integrated marketing and communications functions, partnering closely with our business and product teams to develop strategies that solve movers’ needs. He will report to Founder and Chief Executive Officer, David Greenberg.

“Jeffrey is a proven talent with an incredible background who is passionate about advancing our mission to be the go-to destination for moving,” said Greenberg. “He brings to Updater a wealth of knowledge and technical expertise that will be instrumental in helping to expand our market-leading position. As Updater enters our next chapter of growth, Jeffrey’s insights will help us forge stronger relationships with the millions of Americans who move each year.”

Gerson is a highly experienced marketing executive with a track record of working with leading technology companies to design and implement high-impact strategies that capture mind share and market share. As Instagram’s 30th employee, Gerson built the company’s global community function before transitioning to product marketing — where he launched and scaled some of the photo-sharing app’s most successful features. Over the course of his nearly seven years with Instagram, he also led Instagram’s global pride initiatives as part of his own personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Since then, Gerson has spent the past two years working with early-stage, high-growth start-ups like Polarr and Avenue 8 to build and scale their marketing teams.

“Updater is singlehandedly redefining the moving experience by helping you take control of your move so you can feel at home faster, ” said Gerson. “This powerful value proposition has been well received by movers, strategic partners, and investors, as demonstrated by Updater’s market share and rapid growth. I’m thrilled to join the Updater team and be part of building their next chapter.”

Gerson started his distinguished career at Facebook and has gone on to serve as a trusted community builder and marketing advisor to companies such as Explorest and Soho House. He received his bachelor’s degree in English from Stanford University and spent time studying at Oxford University in England. Gerson also spends significant time working with non-profit organizations like the James Beard Foundation and Djerassi Resident Artists program — as well as providing pro-bono mentorship to LGBTQ+ emerging businesses.
