Meet Updater: Brad Southards, Senior Client Success Manager

Brad Southards, Multifamily Client Success, Updater

Please say hello to Brad Southards, a Senior Client Success Manager here at Updater.

Brad is Updater’s resident musical virtuoso and has performed at regional theaters throughout the southeast and even internationally!  He is a proud fur-dad of River the Goldendoodle and constantly finds ways to give back.  In addition to raising funds for AIDS research, Brad will be riding 545 miles from San Francisco to LA in June to support equitable access to healthcare for the LGBTQAI+ community.

Brad joined our team in July of 2021 and has been completely reshaping our multifamily team here at Updater. Let’s get to know Brad a little more!

Q: Tell us about your experience prior to coming to Updater

A: I started my journey in multifamily as a leasing consultant at a beautiful community in St. Petersburg, FL. I quickly fell in love with the industry because at the heart of all we do we are focused on taking care of people and their homes and that resonated with me. I quickly grew into a Director of Leasing and Marketing role overseeing about 10,000 units.

After working with the operational, marketing, and training teams for a couple of years I joined the team at Grace Hill as an Account Manager for Enterprise accounts to help solve the challenges around compliance training, team engagement, policy management, mystery shopping, and reputation management. I have always been fascinated with the moving experience and the challenges associated with residents, so Updater seemed like a natural move to continue my passion for Multifamily while focusing more on resident needs and operational efficiency for onsite teams.

Q: What is your best piece of moving advice?

A: Plan ahead and be flexible, after all, there are lots of “moving” parts to accomplish. Try to enjoy the experience and don’t hyper-focus on any hiccups and above all be kind to all parties who are helping you accomplish this stressful time during the process.

Q: What feature/ piece of tech are you most excited about at Updater?

A: I really love sleek product design given my background in advertisement and marketing so I am very excited about the new user interface we are launching in Q2. In addition, I believe a simplified workflow that creates a one-stop-shop for residents to stay organized during their stressful move is a huge win while providing onsite teams the ability to keep track of every part of the move-in journey for their upcoming moves.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Updater?

A: Our culture of feedback and always working to be better and the way we partner with clients to truly solve the best ways to create a seamless resident experience.

Q: What do you see as the biggest problem facing the multifamily industry?

A: Affordable housing in the face of inflation and other cultural dynamics coming out of COVID-19, especially the need to retain top talent in our industry during the great resignation.
